My name is Hui-Li (Wendy) Walker and I am a licensed professional counselor. I have a Masters of Art in Counseling from Dallas Baptist University. In the past, I worked in an outpatient clinic as a clinical therapist. I am a therapist of few words, I want to listen to you. I want to listen to your life, your experiences, and who you are as a person.

People say I am a good listener so I will get to know you and the goals you bring to therapy
I have worked as a mental health profession for over 30 in private practice, as a school psychologist, and as professor. Prior to being in mental health I worked in the corporate world, so I bring a variety of experience to our work together.
I have a diverse background which helps me to relate well to many different people. I earned a B.A. in Communications with minors in Music and German, an M.S. in Professional Counseling, and a Ph.D. in General Psychology. I served as a USMC officer and attack helicopter pilot and saw combat in Afghanistan and Iraq. I also have a background in teaching, pastoral work, and music. My life experiences have prepared me in a unique way to serve you as an effective counselor and agent of change.
Looking for someone who will truly listen and meet you where you are? I believe everyone needs support at times, and I strive to be that steady, compassionate presence in therapy. Clients often describe me as warm, open-minded, and easy to talk to. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, heard, respected, and comfortable showing up exactly as you are—without pressure or judgment.
I am a Licensed Psychologist in Texas and a Nationally Certified School Psychologist who specializes in treating children, adolescents, and adults with social-emotional, behavioral, and educational needs. I received my Ph.D. in School Psychology from New York University in 2008 and completed an APA-approved clinical psychology internship at the Devereux Foundation in Pennsylvania. I have received training in both private and public school settings, outpatient settings, hospitals, and in specialized educational programs for children and adolescents with emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs. I participated in a Family and Multicultural Therapy program for two years at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City where I received supervised family therapy and multicultural competency-based training. In addition to my clinical work, I am an Assistant Professor in the School Psychology Program at Texas State University. My research seeks to understand and promote diversity and inclusion in educational settings. I am particularly interested in studying the development of and consequences associated with children’s social (e.g., gender stereotypes) and academic (e.g., growth mindset) cognitions. My research also involves developing and evaluating interventions to promote positive social and academic outcomes.
