Hi, I’m Asajnae Mercadel, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 10 years of experience in healthcare. My background in nursing has given me a strong foundation in understanding both the physical and emotional aspects of patient care. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD, and sleep-related concerns. I’m passionate about creating a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you feel comfortable being open and honest. My goal is to help you feel heard, understood, and empowered in your mental health journey.
Being in this helping profession for 30 years and 20 years within therapy, my approach is based on an individual's needs. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I have worked in almost every therapeutic arena. From outpatient, inpatient, individual, group to children, adolescents, adults, and seniors, I gained experience in multiple avenues. I predominately specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy but also allow for a mutual approach to achieve your goals and needs within this therapeutic process. Life can be messy, overwhelming, and at times downright exhausting. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, disordered eating, grief, relationship challenges, or navigating a major life transition, it can feel like you've lost your footing or aren't quite sure who you are anymore. I work with adolescents and adults who are looking for a space to show up as they are—without judgment, pressure, or the expectation that they need to have it all figured out.
I have meaningful experience supporting individuals navigating eating disorder recovery, helping clients build practical coping skills to manage urges while also exploring the deeper stories, beliefs, and emotions that shape their relationship with themselves. I also work with individuals processing grief and loss, recognizing that healing isn't about "moving on," but learning how to carry what matters while continuing to move forward.
What I would want clients to know about me is that I understand how heavy life can feel when you are carrying too much for too long. I often work with moms, caregivers, children, teens, and adults who are navigating anxiety, stress, overwhelm, life transitions, and the pressure to keep showing up even when they feel emotionally exhausted. If you are a mom who feels like you are always running, always thinking about what someone else needs, and slowly losing touch with yourself, this can be a space to pause, breathe, and begin finding your way back to you.
I also bring many years of experience in education and school counseling, which helps me support children, teens, and families with a practical understanding of how home, school, relationships, and daily responsibilities can impact emotional well-being. My goal is not to help you chase perfection, but to help you build more balance, clarity, confidence, and peace in your everyday life. Whether you are trying to feel like yourself again or trying to support a child who is struggling, you do not have to figure it all out alone.
